Vanessa's
Beaded Tote:
I made this pattern up myself using elements from different published patterns I saw in online and in leaflets. I used Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton and pony beads from Michaels.
Left: A closeup of a row of beads. This is very easy to do, and, I think, makes pieces really look special.
This is my favorite piece of all. It comes from "101 Crochet Squares" by Leisure Arts. I bought my copy of this book (which is out of print) on eBay. These squares are surprisingly simple and are easily personalized. You may not be able to tell that the darker bears are alternating black and brown. I made this for my husband's cousin who was expecting his first child in December 2001. I chose the colors because I read that babies see black, white, and red most clearly and that exposure to those colors early in life can increase intelligence.
Left: A closeup of one of the "girl" bears shows how easy it is to make each one look different. If you look closely, you'll see that the first bear on the fourth row has a mustache, and that the bear on the bottom right has a collar and bow in her hair. Easy!
